THE DOCUMENTARY

It is a creative and self-referential documentary in which I propose to construct a film montage by combining fragments of my great-grandfather's writings with archival material and present-day images.

My great-grandfather, in the prologue to one of his writings, says that he writes for "the generations of tomorrow, those who have not yet been born" in the hope that one day they will be able to " reveal themselves to their dead".

The title “UFOs”(which he gives to one of his texts) makes me think that Vicente, through Gonzalo, throws his ideas into the air in the hope that one day someone will receive them. A message to the future.

But how to send a message to the past?
I would like this film to find a way to travel back in time as a way to transcend the wounds.

SYNOPSIS

Rojo and the UFOs
In a family wardrobe I find some unpublished texts by my great-grandfather, General Rojo, signed by his alter ego: Gonzalo Iberia, the mask he used to give voice to the civil death to which Franco's dictatorship condemned him in the last years of his life.

From that moment on, I have been haunted by a strange sensation that this Gonzalo de Iberia character is demanding that I listen to him, that I understand him. "The dead can speak, even if the ones who are alive don't want to", he says.

This film is an impossible dialogue with my great-grandfather, the search for a voice that allows me to approach the traumas of the past and to understand how and to what point imagination can save us.
